Since the beginning of this century, world has experienced a growing need for enabling techniques and more environmentally friendly protocols that can facilitate rational industrial production. Scientists are faced with major challenges global warming safeguarding water food quality. Organic solvents still widely used seem to be hard replace, despite their enormous environmental toxicological impact. The development water-based strategies extraction primary secondary metabolites from plants on laboratory scale is well documented, several intensified processes being able maximize power water. Technologies, such as ultrasound, hydrodynamic cavitation, microwaves pressurized reactors achieve subcritical conditions dramatically increase rates yields. In addition, significant synergistic effects have been observed when using combined techniques. Due limited penetration depth ultrasonic waves, scaling up entails changes reactor design.
